The Emperors New Clothes

Painted up and ready to rock, The Lost Templars emerge from the darkness... Although congratulating themselves on looking real pretty the Emperor thinks they've over done the bright red and yellow a bit... he suggest toning it down a little in the future...

These boys got a bit of a whooping by The Black Museum in sector 578.009, although being as they're mostly all ex Blood Angel marines they held their own in close combat against the Chaos Terminators...

The achilies heel for these boys is their fearsome Death Company, who although took out the Temies became enthused with such rage they spent the rest of the battle running around in circles ranting and spitting at tanks they'd never be able to catch... "Boys come back.... their troops are over there..... boys...?..."
The good news is that they've promised next time to keep their shit together and help out their brothers... Long Live The Lost Templars!

Lost Templars wear armour pieced together from dead brothers of different chapters...The Death Company.... Ranting and spitting at tanks

Secret Weapons

I have recently been thinking of starting a Tyranid army. Going BIG BUG army, no poxy horde nonsense. A cluster of mean hungry bug eyed baddies. Then i made this little guy, just a standard guy, like you or me, except with a bloody big bomb and a hat. This little dude could take out a whole bug squad with a simple throw.

Snatching victory from the Imperial clutch

Black Museum guard had their first clear cut victory the other day. Outnumbered and out gunned after Lost Templars (Blood Angels) and Grey Knights wiped the Chaos Marine Allies from the table by turn 3 with barely a scratch the Curator found himself with two veteran squads left holding 1 objective vs the Imperials Elites holding two others at the end of turn 5.

Black Museum Guard were sick of holding the line and took to the offense. Chimera's charging to the left and right, troops running headlong into fire. A shed load of Death Or Glory and Chimera's covering fire and the game turned around Renegades 1 Imperium 0.

Meanwhile the undefeated Ork army of King Gorg I - Self proclaimed ruler of the planet laughed right royal proper at the weedlings having scrap.

Black Musuem Techpriest

So the first step with the Black Museum guard... Enough models to bring to the table, then enough painted models to have fun at the table (tanks). Next the models I need to win (Still working on that winning thing - Valkerie). About time some character and Platoon 2 got involved.

Here is the Black Museum Tech Priest, just training some mortar troops in the basics.

Black Museum Curator

IMG_0752

I have been messing about with who should be in charge of the Black Museum guard for quite some time. From a humble regular troop to some old Necromunda figures I finally found the true Curator of the Black Museum Guard. The Inquistor figure from Daemonhunters/Witch Hunters is perfect.

Total Van Helsing bad ass... Going to play him as a Commissar Lord with a Powersword, Carapace and a Plasma. Welcome Curator to the fold.

It Was A Day For Peace.

IMG_0699The setting:

[

Rules in brief

  • A three way battle very loosly based on the broken treaty idea.

  • Leaders in the middle around 1 mobile objective (a little warp creature) scatters each turn - 3 victory points.

  • 5 strategic statice objectives - 1 victory point each.

  • each round roll to see the turn order between players

  • If someone kills the warp creature (T2, W1, 2+ inv save) every model takes a strength6 hit - inv saves only AND the other two armies must attack the killer until it it wiped out.

]

The Peace Treaty was to be signed in the central square of the abandoned city.

IMG_0701The leaders of the three armies met under a truce to decide the fate of the astral warp being that had popped into existence grabbed all their attention. No bigger than a human baby, this little anomaly radiated so much psychic energy that is shone like a beacon through the warp.

The importance of this was not lost on the leader of the Black Museum Guard who finally saw a chance of recontacting the rest of humanity.

The Eldar knew more than any other the potential of this innocent little creature. Harnessing such a power would make all their recent casualties worth while.

The Orks, having received the request for a peace treaty, armed themselves to the teeth and headed out to the Battle Field.  Stopping his troops just outside the central square King Gorg I - self proclaimed ruler of the planet, turned to his troops, "Now Remember dis is a peace treaty.  So I'm gonna go out there and make sure they hit us first".  With that he turned his bike towards the human and eldar leaders waiting for him in the cenre of the square.

IMG_0695The Battle Begins:

The truce was broken and all hell broke loose.

The Humans struck first. Parked on the outskirts of the city square, the heavy artillery tank units let fly a barrage of plasma and flame, aimed at the ork Deffkoptaz that had risen from behind some of the ruined buildings. The Eldar, seeing the treaty break down, moved with order and precision to secure the town square and capture the warp creature. A unit of Swooping Hawks took to the skies to gain a better vantage. The Ork Leader let out a battle cry and kicked his bike into gear heading straight for the humans tanks.

The orks focused on the big prizes -  the tanks. Buzzkoptaz buzzed and dropped like flies around the metal hulks, distracting them whilst King Gork I - Ruler of the Planet smashed into them with his powerClaw. From distance a well concealed Shokk Attak Gun aided the destruction of the tank force.

The tank supporting infantry units were under heavy fire from a squad of eldar Dire Avengers, who were securing one of the corners of the city square, being joined by their JetBike mounted leader, returning from the failed parley. The large remainder of the eldar force, backed up by a Wave Serpent,  maneuvered to take the neighbouring corner in a move that would give them control over one end of the city square. Hiding in the Rubble, the Fire Dragons made short work of one the Ork Trukks heading towards them, leaving the boyz they were carrying scrambling for cover. The other trukk met a similar fate  as a squad of warp-spiders materialized briefly to cause havoc before disappearing back into the void.

With the rest ork force occupying the human tanks  the eldar plan was going smoothly.

IMG_0693The Tide Turns:

Human reinforcements arrived.

From the skies dropped the Valkyrie, guns blazing. It came down behind the main Eldar force, who had the stranded Ork foot soldiers pinned down, and destroyed the Wave-Serpent and it's passengers. The Eldar Fire-Dragons were also caught in the massacre, and in on swift attack the Eldar battle plan had been demolished, and two thirds of it's force was wiped out.

In the opposite corner of the city square, two out of the three human tanks were now destroyed or immobilised thanks to the Ork Warboss battle fury and the now fallen Deffkoptaz. But the arrival of a fourth tank heralded a new trouble as a squad angry Ogryns trundled down the back ramp. Surrounded by two tanks and three Ogryns, King Gorg's self imposed rein seemed to be coming to an end. And it would have had it not been for the Eldar.

Desperate Measures

Sensing defeat the Eldar forces turned their attention to the warp creature, attacking it with everything they had. Better destroy the thing than let it fall into enemy hands. The warpspiders deathspinners ripped through the creatures flesh. With its dying breath it let out an infant like scream as a massive psychic shockwave tore across the battle field crashing through the minds of each unit. The result was devastating. Gretchin heads exploded, Ork bodies slumped, human screams filled the air and Eldar warriors writhed uncontrollably before becoming motionless.

Over two thirds of the forces on the battle field were now lying motionless. And those remaining had lost their senses. Both Human and Ork both turn their full attention to the remaining Eldar with an unnatural bloodlust – a departing gift from the warp creature to its killer, its dying anger amplified in the minds of its killer’s enemies. The remaining Eldar did not last long and their small squadron, lead by a figure on a Jetbike, were wiped out by the Human Commanders body guards dying blow.

With the death of their common enemy the remaining armies minds cleared, and both sides focused re-focused on each other Amidst the confusion, the Ork Warboss had re-grouped with the rest of his biker mob and raced full speed into the centre of the square, away from the the danger of the tanks, which turned their attention to vapourizing the Mek Carrying the Shokk Attak Gun.

Despite the valkarye transporting the squad of veterans to a strategic position in a ruined building on the outskirts of the squre, and the attempts of the Ogryn squad to stop them, the Ork biker gang swiftly dispatched the human leader and allowing the remaining ork boyz to secure the square.

The humans had no choice but to pull out and leave the city to the Orks

A dance with The Devil awaits at The Crossroads

kingmong-02The Lost Templars surfaced as old enemies The Ultra Marines lay claim to the devestated Corinthian Sector. 200 years earlier the ancient chapter banished by The Ultra Marines on command from The Emperor fled to the furthest points of the 7th System, seeking solice amidst the ruins of Dharu-Khan. It was here they re-established themselves and began their crusade to purge all remenants of the corrupted Imperium from every dark corner of the system "No longer will The Emperor preach his poisoned heracy and lick the galaxy with his diseased tongue" (Brother Regus 42,731).

The freshly formed Ultra Marines Recon 111th unit, resplendant in their pristine new armour finally located a small band of The Black Museum. These unfortunate twisted souls mortally feared by the Emperor are being hunted without mercy... An all out anihilation was ordered and the marine force headed in for the kill.

The inexperience of this new marine unit and the underestimation of the Black Museums armour proved fatal as the tanks wreaked destruction on The Emperors men, it was said that the blood of The Ultra Marines stained the ground blue...

The Lost Templars, anxious for The Black Museum not to get a stronghold in The Sector have been persuing them for many moons. Finally mounting an assault amidst the ruins of the city they found to their surprise their bitter enemies The Ultra Marines in pursuit of the same goal... The mere presence of the Emperor in their sector was enough to boil their blood and they turned part of their force headlong into a charge.

The Black Museum making their way through the ruined city in search of communication stations found themselves ambushed on both sides by The Emperors finest and an unknown entity of what appeared to be a space marine chapter. Not equipped to deal with the oppositions troops many men perished into the scorched rubble, though their heavy firepower arrived to rain merciless death and re-establish the advantage.

After some time all sides withdrew as the unexpected 3-way conflict began to compromise objectives... The Black Museum remain strong continuing their establishment in the sector. The Ultra Marines return shamed to The Emperor with news of heavy defeat but the unexpected encounter with the once thought extinct Templars gives birth to renewed hatred and a call for all men to...... WAR......!!!!

Imperial Guard revenge O-Clock

Finally the Black Museum had a game where they weren't being pummeled. Ok correction the Guard got pummeled, but you should of seen the other guy.

The Tanks really delivered with the Leman Russ Battlecannon cleaning out some exposed Devastators, and the Punisher taking out a whole termie team and the best part of a full tactical squad, it did so well it deserved a proper paint job and a little converting.

Activity Report

eldarKSSSHK "Black 5 scout unit to Assault Frigate Purifier. Approaching gamma quadrant, no sign of movement"

KSSHHK "Roger that Black 5. Purifier reading you loud and clear. Is there any sign of the source of the beacon signal we were picking up?"

KSSHHK "That's a negative Purifier, this planet seems to match up to our records, long since abandoned. The only structures remaining in this area were once part of a large industrial complex. A Refectory or Mine possibly. It's so over grown it's hard to tell. And there's nothing on record"

KSSHHKhk "Roger that Black 5. Proceed for a close range scan of the complex so we can add it to Records. Any signs of the recent alien activity?"

KSSSHK "That's a negative Purifier." No sign of Ork or Eldar presence. Proceeding for close range scan... Wait.. Purifier, this is Black 5, I have visual. Black smoke on the horizon, grid ref 37641, source unknown. Please advice"

KSSHHK "Roger that Black 5. Objective change, scout and re-con source of smoke. Do not engage, priority 1"

KSSSHK "Roger that Purifier".

KSSSHK "Black 5 scout unit to Assault Frigate Purifier, relaying video footage now, are your receiving this? It looks like the remains of some kind of Walker. Is that thing Eldar?"

KSSSHK "That's affirmative Black 5. Continue surveillance sweep. Any signs of movement?"

KSSSHK "Roger that Purifier, that's a negative on movement. All scanners clear. Looks like that walker took quite hit though. This whole area's a complete war-zone. Fortifications, trenches, but they look like they were abandoned long ago, and this things still smoldering."

KSSSHK "Roger that Black 5. Proceed with caution. Finish you sweep then return to dock. We'll send in a full re-con squad. What ever it was that took out that Walker may still be around".

KSSSHK "Affirmative Purifier. Returning to.. Wait a minute. I'm picking up large amount of metalic debry. Sending scan for analysis."

KSSSHK "Received Black 5, Analysing.... Strange? This makes no sense. What ever it was Imperial build. The molecular signature is unmistakable. But there's no record of the Imperial Guard being stationed on this planet. This needs further investigation. Black 5 your reacon is complete. Return to dock immediately for de-briefing".

KSSSHK " Affirmative Purifier, returning now"

KSHHHHK BLIP "Wha.. Mayday! Mayday!, Ambush. Primitive Rockets coming from the old Fort. Climbing out of range, returning to base. What the! They're behind... KSHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH"

KSSSHK "Black 5 this is Purifier Come in."

4 way games take a long time.

40k really isn't designed for 4 way games, doesn't stop us trying though. However it is always a game of two halves. This one had game 1 - Imperial Guard vs Demon Hunters at point blank.... Then Orks & Eldar vs the Human leftovers. Here are some pics

43 Imperial Guard down, vox the Ogryns

So after watching 43 Troops fall under a Ork Warboss & Nob squad. I started scouting the list for anything that could would be more effective then a packet of Chicken Nuggets trying to stop an 18 wheeler.

There is only one option Ogryns! Ogryns though are very expensive units at £10 a figure, £16 for the forgeworld ones (then you still have to convert them for regular units). So with one Forgeworld already under my belt and an ebay account, 7 Black Museum Guard irregulars pitched up for duty for £30.

Battlereport: Orks, Grey Knights, Imperial Guard

P1000861

P1000856Mission Background
There are 2 Objective to capture and hold.
3 way 750 points, although I think we all pushed it by 10 points.

A mysterious power source has appeared in the sector (Objective 1) and a an old Ork probe was left lying around to alert the orks if anything happened in the sector (objective 2).

Armies

Orks probe has flagged up the power source and possibility of some humies, they head out on Mass and in their truck to go investigate. Army playing pure horde with a single truck to get them into the fight.

Grey Knights have just returned to investigate rumours of a warp hole that had been opened up. Hard hitting strike force made up of a Stormtrooper Squad, Marine Squad, Dreadnaught and some Termies.

P1000851Black Musuem Guard are looking to secure mysterious power source, start trudging through the swamp, bush with their Zombie Hoard in tow. Infantry, Sentinal, Griffon, Punisher, and HQ Command and platton Command, The Zombies are Conscripts with two CC weapons and no ranged ability.

Infiltrate:
Ratling snipers set up with sites over the plains.

TURN 1

The Greenskins playing pure hoard tactics decide to split forces. Weirdboy and his squad of 15 head straight for the marines ignoring the probe.

The battletruck, full of nobz and the warBoss, is  followed by a 20 strong squad of chopa boyz that  head straight for the mass of zombies in the woods.

Weirdboyz brain blows up takes a few of his own men with him.

Grey Knights take up position, send small arms fire at the Weirdboy Ork squad that isheading for them. TP1000861hey take casualties fromt the returning ork fire.

BMG Position Mortar and herd the zombie hoarde through the swamps, they spot the Ork strike force on the right hand side and setup a defensive line of troops. Command squad takes some pot shots at the Ork Truck and miss.

On the other side of the city, ratlings start taking some shots at the Dreadnought and Inquisitor that are out in the open, one of the inquistors retinue gets it in the neck.

TURN 2
P1000846Ork truck carries on  and stops just short of the Zombies, just runs short of being able to tank shot them , the Nobz specialists start making very easy work of the Guard Infantry. Two Wounds each,  god knows how many attacks and a painboy this strike force is finding the infantry easy work. The ork boys follow behind, lagging from lack of transport

Grey Knight Termies in reserve deep strike next to the Ork Squad next to Objective 2, their storm bolters let rip and make mincemeat out of the entire squad. Only a few characters left of the weirdboyz squad.

Dreadnaught takes some shots through the ruined city at the Imperial Guard, that Lascannon gets lost in the heavy bush cover though.

BMG the Punisher tank with heavy flamers takes up position behind the Ork Nob Melee and brings that nasty P1000874heavy 20 weapon around to bear on the Impending Ork Hoard that haven't yet engaged in Close Combat, 9 of the dirty Orks get turned into a green wasabi like puree and start running away.

20 Zombies are herded and charge into the Melee start getting stuck into that tasty Ork flesh and actually manage take a couple out, taking heavy causalities constantly. Black Museum Sentinal and Infantry Squad take up position on Objective 1, with the Heavy Griffin lobbing nasty bombs at that Dreadnought that is disabled from moving, but in the best position, perfectly down line of site of all my men. Between the Griffon and the Ratlings the Inquistor that is taking cover is loses his retinue buddies pretty quickly. Command Squad brings it's well positioned Lascannon to bare on the Ork Truck and destrP1000871oys it.

TURN 3
Ork hoard run back to the farm.

Meanwhile the front line of Nobz and Warboss makes lingering bloody close combat, finishing off  all the infantry except for one particularly hardy trooper and attempts finish off the the Zombies that just keep coming (Conscripts with two close combat weapons and no shooting ability), The Painboy keeps boosting them with stims to keep the wounds off.

Meanwhile over in objective 2, Weirdboy and the remainders of his boys turn their heads and charge into the Grey Knight marines.

Grey Knights Dreadnaught takes some pot shots at the Imperial Guard in the Swamp and theP1000882 command platoon loses a infantry member. GK Terminators take up position around on Objective 2 and let ripp on the Orks that have rallied and are now holed up in the Sandbag village. The melee of the weirdboy squad turns the other way as the hunter becomes the hunted and the GKnight marines chop them up into Donar Kebab type strips.

BMG Shoot shoot shoot. Ratlings fire pointlessly at the now disabled Dreadnought looking for a lucky shot and the Mortar takes out Inquistor totally.

Troops embed around Objective 1. This punisher looks for a clear shot of the Ork Nobz and just doesn't get it. Ork Nobz finish up the Zombies and set their sights on the next sP1000875quad. Will the Punisher ever get a clear shot ? That big Claw and strength Ten ork will make strawberry squash out of the tank.
Reserves finally turn up, Marbo the man of the moment has been lying in waiting around Objective 1 the whole game and drops a demolition charge and bingo hits the Terminators square on, although rolls pretty badly with the Strength 8 AP2 it could be totally over for the Termie squad, but alas only gets two of them.

TURN 4

Ork Koptaz come in as reserve and unleash some big dakka agains the inquisitorial stom troopers, wiping out the squad.

The Ork Nobz maybe only three of them left but with 30 kills already under their belt they add another 10 this turn and wipe out the whole infantry squad.

The now depleted boyz fire back at the Termies fortified farm to no use. Ork Copters finally turn up a little late, but set up position behind the Inquistorial Guard and make mush out of an easy target, stopping the Grey Knights from holding both Objectives.

Grey Knight Space Marines move to take up position around Objective 1. Terminators are not very happy about losing two of their battle brethren to this little chump. They take up a clear shot and riddle Marbo with bullet holes. The Dreadnaught fires again at the Black Guard Lascannon placement hidden in the bushes. Hits a squad member.

BMG: P1000888OK if those Nobz have another go they will certainaly kill the punisher Tank, was thinking this is the only decent weapon I have left against the Termies. The tank finds position and lets rip with everything, 3 Heavy Flamers, and the full Gatling cannon. Only take the Painboy out! Balls. Ratlings and Mortar carry on their mission to ruin the Dreadnoughts paintjob. Infantry and the Sentinal think about doing something, Sentinal breaks cover and takes up position to cover the ratlings.

TURN 5
Ork Kopters bust out rounda into the ratlings, opening fire as they get amongst the ratlings, that fail a morale check and get running.

Ork Nobz 43 Models this squad has decimated and has a 5 attacks with a strength ten doofing power claw against this tank, everything misses.

Grey Knights Termies hide from the Griffons Mortar. Despite copious sledging the emporers finest are feeling vunerable. Dreadnought takes another shot at the Lascannon placement, another squad member loses a life.

P1000890BMG the punisher tank is the luckiest machine going, backs up and brings it Gatling cannons and Flamers to bear on these two Nobz for the umpteenth time. 9 Wounds against these fragging dirty killing machines ... Overkill finally!  The Sentinal opens up on the Copters attempting to cover the ratlings flee. The Commanders Lascannon team takes out another Terminator.

Conclusions:

Black Museum Guard are holding Objective 1.
Grey Knights hold Objective 2.

Sounds like a showdown.
Orks are decimated, mainly because the Ork player usually wins we all took a healthly interest in all of his forces. Also a discovery that 40 troops are not enough for a squad of Nobz with a Painboy, need something bigger. Might be time to invest in those Ogryns.

Man Of The Match: Has to be that Ork Warboss. Either that or the Imperial Guard Infantry Sargent that stood up against him for four bouts and survived,
